5 Packing Tips for a Move

Packing boxes may on the surface seem like a simple task. However, there are a few packing tips you can implement to improve your skills and save yourself any unnecessary effort.

Use larger boxes for lighter items

Making sure that you fill larger boxes with only lighter items helps moving them much more manageable. It can also save you from straining your body too much.

Document where all your items are packed

Something that you’ll thank yourself when you’ll start unpacking boxes is this. Creating a list of what every box you pack contains will save you huge amounts of effort and time when you will inevitably need specific items.

Pack heavier items at the bottom

This may seem obvious for many, however, sometimes it the simple things people forget. Additionally, when loading the boxes onto the truck ensure that the heaviest boxes are loaded on first or place them closer to the truck so they are taken on first by the movers as this helps will truck balance.

Don’t leave any empty space in boxes

Making sure that each and every box is fully packed not only keeps the items safer but will give you a bit of peace of mind knowing your items aren’t jumping around during transport. If you are unable to configure items to fully fill the box, or you simply run out of stuff, then you can always use clothes or newspapers to fill in the remaining spaces.

Ensure you have the right moving supplies

The last thing you’d want is to begin the packing process only to realise that you’re low on tape or have slim tape. Additionally, you’ll thank yourself for buying a decent tape dispenser as it’ll make your packing much easier and hassle-free. Depending on your needs zip ties can also come in handy if you need to secure certain items before packing them.
